Solar Screens & Window Screens |
This Page is Still Under Construction
What are you Material Needs
Replacement Window/Solar Screens are typical of original screens manufactured and installed with new window construction. New screens can be made with our .020 or .025 Rollformed Aluminum frame and stamped aluminum corner inserts. We recommend you do make or ever accept screens made with plastic corners. Plastic corners discolor and break easily. Additional hardware, such as window springs, pull tabs and all accessory items are available on our site.
The first step in making your custom window screens is taking good, accurate measurments. Your measurments should be from out side corner to outside corner. Take a measurment for both the height and width. Remember the golden rule of measure twice, cut once.
How to measure your Window/Solar screens to order you materials: There are two measurements that are needed for calculating you material needs. – Width and Height.
Width: Measure your current screen from side to side.
Height: Measure your current screen from the top to the bottom.
Now just calculate your framing needs. Once you know what your material needs are for framing. Your almost there.
Next is Screen Frame color. You have a choice of Mill (Metallic Aluminum), Bronze (Dark Brown), White, Gray, Almond and Adobe/Tan.

Next, Screen Frame Thickness. Standard screens are made with 3/4”-wide Rollform Aluminum. The thickness is the depth of the screen frame. Use a tape measure to identify the thickness of the frame you are seeking. 7/16” is the thickest and 1/4” is the thinnest. We offer a 1” x 7/16” screen frame for additional strength and support. 'Yes', some locations across the country utilize 1” framing as a standard for screen construction. Its utilized more often for heavy fabrics such as “SunTex.”
We offer several choices of Insect Screening and Solar Screening materials for you to choose from. All manufactured by Phifer Wire Products.

Once you have your measurments, you are ready to cut your screen frame. Set up your miter saw to cut the desired length and cut away. Be sure to measure your first cut to ensure that your calculations were correct before you proceed. Set your miter saw at 45 degrees and make your cuts.
After you have your screen frame pieces cut, connect the four pieces of frame material with the corner connectors (be sure to add your window springs at this time to one vertical or horizontal side of the screen before adding the corner connector). Test fit the screen frame in the window to ensure a proper fit.
Next are the accessories. For Example, Pull Tabs are a standard part of window screen construction. Based on the size of your screen, you will place the appropriate number of Lift Tabs for ease in installing your new screen.
Springs are also a standard part of new screen construction. Flat Window Springs are standard for all framing except for 3/4x1/4 which uses Wire WIndow Springs.
Sometimes Window/Solar screens use additional hardware for support and mounting. Please check our "accessories" section for different mounting options.
Spreader Bars are common for larger screens, but in certain circumstances they are added for additional framing support. We carry two widths – 7/8” (widest) and 5/8” (thinnest). Please check which size you require.
